He writes the songs

Where have I been? Why have I not discovered Barry Manilow before now? I'm not sure I agree with Barry's self-perception that he is a sex god, but I am definitely feeling the Manilow.

Last night, I flew to Vegas to hook up with Lu to take in a Barry show. It's always so fun to hang out with that girl and the Vegas rendezvous was no disappointment. We had all the Vegas expected scenes, weird cab-driver, talking dirty the second you hit the strip, and hanging out in our underwear swapping clothes. Good times.

I vandalized a sign in the lobby at the Hilton. See Little Star's blog for details. But the real fun was the show. I had a good number of beers before hand, so that helped. All attendees were given glow sticks. How cool is that? Most of the crowd was white-haired, so that was very cool. Barry was a little tired, and I know now where most white folk got all their dance moves...holy moly. He's got melody, but rythym, well...maybe he used to. He did some weird pole-grinding and rubbing his back side up against this plexi-glass, and one of his back-up dancers was grinding him from the back, which was so AWESOME, I loved it. Barry is a DP'er for sure. He sang a few notes of alot of his old jingles. Everyone there was having a great time.

It was touching to be there with Lu though. That music is linked with her love for Jim, who is gone. And a lot of the songs were very eerily close to reality for her and him. But, I know that it will take time to heal and I am so glad to be with her a little during this. I felt like I knew Jim a little better after this, and that makes me sad and happy. His loss is so sad, but I can see that he taught Lu a lot and she grew from her time with him and he left so many positive imprints on her. I wish I had gotten to know him a bit more when he was here. But Barry can show me a little bit. And it's a good thing.

Umm...midway through the show, those four or five beers were bursting my bladder so I went to go. There was this handy little shelf behind the toilet where I chose to stow my glow. As I was relieving, I thought I felt someone tap my back...so of course, I turned and looked. No one there. Then when done, I stood up... and it's an auto-flusher, and it was then that I saw my glow swirling around and heading out to sea. It made the loudest screeching noise, and I am pretty sure that I clogged up the plumbing in the Vegas Hilton. But Barry beckoned. I had to get back.

After the show, we watched a mariachi. I loved them. We bought fatty desserts and went to the room. Tried on clothes, and passed out. Morning came and we parted ways again.

The whole thing was pretty cool. It was the best Wednesday I have had in a long time. And Itunes just sucked some bucks out of me for Barry. "Cause it's DAYBREAK!"

My grandma once got a call from someone who asked if my grandpa was the same one lived at a specific address with a specific name at a specific time, because apparently Barry Manilow's father (who he never met) lived there. So maybe gramps was busy in his youth!
