Lawyering Life

Ok, so being a lawyer is not the absolute worst job in the world, it could be worse. And for me, I feel like I do a little good for a few people. Small scale stuff, but marginally meaningful. I spent an hour and half on the phone yesterday talking to a victim who is having a tough time and I don't think anyone else gives a crap about her. Now, I can't be her friend or anything, but I can listen. Last year, some victim sent me a her suicide note via email. That sucked. It was titled "to my friends". Sad that I made that list of six people.

Anywho....lives of lawyers can be totally diverse. There was this bucktoothed old jerk at the gym who I used to have as opposing counsel when I was a State DA, and he was trying to run next to me and chat. He's a slime.

And then there are people who have to work behind the scenes and attempt to bully and threaten guys like this: www.fedexfurniture.com

And this guy does a pretty damn good job with life as a firm lawyer. http://anonymouslawyer.blogspot.com

So I'll take my little job in Indian Country and talk to victims about their lives and make sure that the police aren't too out of control. it can be overwhelming, but I do need to keep perspective. I mean, I just don't know if I could get my blood pumping for FEDEX over a dude making good use of some clearly quality packaging material.

If you get a chance check out http://opinionistas.blogspot.com/. It might help validate that you are doing the right thing. I never realized that the corporate world of "lawyering" could be so cut throat. Interesting shady side of the law.

If you can trust in the work you do, then it's always worthwhile.
